Elf Off: The Gory Aftermath

by

Well, True Believers, did Santa bring you everything you wished for? The jolly old elf went above and beyond at my house!

Not only do I have the incredible luck of being married to a true geek, but we have also managed to birth a baby geekling. Think Captain America can hold his own? Well, what if the good Captain is in Hot Wheels form, and his adversary is a large Super Hero Squad Iron Man? Cap never did like Tony’s attitude, but the good-natured sot definitely had a weight advantage.

Carnage ensued.

My husband and I decided to strictly limit our spending on each other, so we could flood the aforementioned geekling with all manner of unneeded (but awesome) toys. He knew what I was getting him. He had pre-ordered it at the local GameStop. I kept the mystery going, though, with carefully plotted diversion tactics.

“GameStop? I’ve never heard of Gamestop!”

“Maybe I’ll get it for you. MAYBE I WON’T! You don’t know.”

I’m tricksey, my precious.

I ended up getting it for him, of course. But, I couldn’t resist adding a cheap addition to the gift. Now, it may seem trite to you, but in my eyes, my husband is a super hero. See the awesome picture?

Shut up. That’s the way it should be!

Now, I had no idea what he was going to get me. All I knew was that it came from one of my favorite places: ThinkGeek. Oh, the possibilities!

I GOT A TURRET FROM PORTAL! How great is that? Pretty dang great! I totally love it! It has a motion sensor and will talk to you ever so sweetly before riddling you with bullets! I can’t stop using exclamation points!

Your turn, mates (you’re on a ship –The Cool Ship– get it?). What sweet geeky gadgets and toys did you get for Christmas? Share in the comments!

Also, don’t forget about the previous Elf Off articles! They’ve got some great gift ideas that don’t need to be saved only for holiday purposes. You can find them in the Geekery section or by clicking on my name.

  1. I got a Transformers 3 dvd and comic for my husband :)
I also gave him a Snoopy T-shirt that says “feed me” (snoopy holding supper bowl in mouth) and a T-shirt with a big Borboun biscuit on it (it’s a kind of cookie.) I think those all classify as geeky in some way.

Personally, um, I got some crochet books and Sylvanian Families. In my world, those are sort of geeky. Not the same, but hey, I’m not geeky like you are! I got a new camera. :) I guess that’s geeky!

  2. I was the proud recipient of “Punisher: War Zone,” “The Room,” and a t-shirt from Casa Bonita in Denver that says, “Was it worth it? Totally!”
