Saying “I do!” like you want to…GEEKILY!

by

As you probably don’t know, I am a young lady betrothed to a swell fella’. (Unless you’re one of my friends reading this because I paid you to.) But, as you probably do know, I am a geek.

Mike is a geek, too. It’s all very sweet and matchy-matchy. Seriously, we’re adorable. Like a puppy and a baby panda splitting an ice cream cone times a thousand. Consider your mind blown.

Sidenote: After reading this to Mike, his only comment was, “May God have mercy on our souls.” That’s good, right?

But, we’re more renaissance geeks – nerds of all trades, conventioneers for none. That hasn’t dimmed my high-beam bright passion for geek-themed wedding ephemera that I’ll never actually use or do. Here are some things that are really toasting my coconut, bridally speaking.

Hogwarts honeys

What’s more romantic than the potions master (and, judging by his appearance, major Cure fan) Snape’s assertion to Dumbledore that he loved Lily Potter, “Always.”?

Pay tribute to one of the most readable young adult books to ever, justifiably, cross over to grown ups. Sort bridesmaids into the four houses of Hogwarts, but make sure the person put into Slytherin hasn’t read the books, she might get even more offended than the friend put into Hufflepuff.

Also, is it just me, or does the outfit for Gryffindor look like a bit of a trollop?

Never Lego of my heart

Ok, it’s a bad pun. I will now gladly dodge tossed rotten vegetables.

All done? Ok, this might be just the thing for geek-light couples. I mean, who didn’t play with Legos? Who doesn’t think they’re awesome (Aside from their dismal attempts to market to girls.)?

The downside is actually making the damn thing or paying someone to make it for you. All it takes is one misplaced bored kindergartener and – POW! – portrait pummeled.

The upside is unadulterated awesome for all your guests to see.

Mmm…caaaaaake

“The Simpsons” is sort of a favorite over at Mike’s place. Growing up, I wasn’t allowed to watch it.

There has to be some geek, somewhere trying to talk his bride into incorporating “The Simpsons” into their fall wedding who just had an “Ah ha!” moment.

No, Mike. We cannot incorporate “The Simpsons” into our fall wedding.

Guests at full health

Oh sure, you say you’re looking at geek weddings, so of course you need to mention Zelda. But rather than focus on yet another pitch-perfect cosplay wedding dress, I’m going to point out something that’s a little less flashy.

These guys actually made their table assignments potions bottles from the game. It looks like the bottles were full of candy with colors that corresponded to the table linens. And fantastically detailed centerpieces showing off propped from the Zelda world.

Yes, this is just a short drive-by. Do you have any idea how many geek wedding websites there are out there? A lot. That’s how many there are.

Were you able to incorporate some geek into your wedding? How’d you do it? Have pictures?

  1. My comment was actually a failed Simpson’s quote (ep 4F07 “Hurricane Neddy”). While it was spoken in my best Dr. Foster voice, it should have been, “May god have mercy on us all.” I feel deeply ashamed for making this mistake.

  2. This is the best thing ever. ‘Nuff said.
