The Rise, and Possible Fall, of the Dark Knight

by

Since the days when the confirmation of The Dark Knight Rises became public, people have wondered and speculated as to what will come of one of the more favored and possibly overrated superheroes.

Expect me to find a litterbox in all that?

With each passing day and with each new update, speculations became more narrow. People wondered who was going to play Bane and Catwoman. Star Trek villain Tom Hardy and Havoc star Anne Hathaway have been cast as Bane and Selina Kyle, respectively. If I get anything out of his movie, it will be how hot Hathaway will look in the Catwoman outfit.

Knowing the hate/love relationship between Catwoman and Batman could possibly lead to Selina Kyle being the love interest of Bruce Wayne. Besides that possible needless plot device, there has been a lot of speculation of the Bane/Batman fight. It is obvious that Batman is going to get manhandled by the roided up villain. A big speculation is that Batman will die fighting against Bane or at least come out with a broken back, just like he did in the Knightfall comic book story arc.

The death of Batman could have both positive and negative consequences. People could look at this as the ending of a great trilogy or kids could be scarred by the death of someone they look up to. I know I was when Optimus Prime died in the 1986 Transformers movie.

Although, this could lead to the unveiling of Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s “real” character. His reported character is John Blake, a cop assigned to special duty under Commissioner Gordon. This may lead to a Nightwing appearance. I seriously doubt he is just going to be some side note character judging from some of his past roles and his rise in popularity. Even if the movie did suck, he was Cobra Commander. Just sayin’.

I was living in Pittsburgh at the time The Dark Knight Rises was being filmed there. I encountered some sights of the production while I was on my way to class or work or following school girls……cough…..Anne Hathaway…I mean….shut up.

Another bonus of this movie for me, is that a few members of the Pittsburgh Steelers are in the movie as members of the Gotham Rogues. Former Steelers coach Bill Cowher is the coach of the Rogues.

Regardless of what actually happens, fans will be either really pleased or really brassed off. I think I will like it for the most part if not think that it has effectively finished off the series in style.
