Steve Martin is a funny guy. Well, actually, he’s a wild and crazy guy.
I’ve got a lot of respect for aging comedians who can reinvent themselves. Martin’s gone from stand-up to television to movies to author to music, not necessarily in that order. Plus, he has never completely left one behind in favor of another.
I’m not old enough to remember his SNL days, but I do remember Father of the Bride. It’s actually one of my favorite movies. The remake’s much better than the 1950 version. Sorry, Spencer.
Martin started a YouTube channel recently. He’s only uploaded one video thus far: Paul Revere House Performance.
First off, a show of hands for those of you who knew Steve Martin played in a blue grass band.
There should be a good number of hands raised.
The group, the Steep Canyon Rangers, released their first album in 2001. Martin joined them in 2009 during a broadcast of A Prairie Home Companion. He plays with them occasionally but is not an official member of the band.
I myself was blissfully unaware of the Rangers or Martin’s involvement with them until several years ago when I saw them on a late night show. It was pretty cool.
On Tuesday, I came across the above video. When I went to YouTube to watch it, only 18 people before me had viewed it. Frankly, I found that hard to believe! It was (and is) so good! The men of the Rangers had my foot tapping in no time, and I loved that it was performed at Paul Revere’s house. Nice touch.
Also, I’m a sucker for personification.
