Vertigo Ousts Citizen Kane for the Top Spot

Well, it’s finally happened! Citizen Kane has been knocked off of its high horse (or sled, if you wanna make a cute joke about it). After 50 years, it has been dethroned, and the crown has been passed to a worthy heir: Alfred Hitchcock’s Vertigo.

The members of the British Film Institute have declared that Hitchcock’s 47th feature deserves it’s rightful place in the top spot of their Sight & Sound list, moving Orson Wells’ Citizen Kane to the number two spot.

The Top Ten list is rounded out by the following films: 3. Tokyo Story, 4. La Regle du jeu, 5. Sunrise: A Song of Two Humans, 6. 2001: A Space Odyssey, 7. The Searchers, 8. Man with a Movie Camera, 9. The Passion of Joan of Arc, and 10. 8 1/2.

So what do you think of the BFI’s decision? Is Vertigo worthy of the top spot or should Citizen Kane still reign supreme?
