Ice Cream: The Perfect Movie Tie-In?

"I love scotch. Scotchy, scotch, scotch. Here it goes down, down into my belly..."

“I love scotch. Scotchy, scotch, scotch. Here it goes down, down into my belly…”

Ben & Jerry’s recently announced their newest flavor, “Scotchy Scotch Scotch,” a product tie-in for the Anchorman sequel, Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues. It’s an interesting, if not perfect, idea for a movie tie-in. Maybe it’s because I’m a bit of an ice cream addict, but I do think it’s a pretty smart idea. You take a movie that is expected to be a hit and/or already has a huge fan base and have the best ice cream makers in the world, Ben & Jerry’s, create an ice cream flavor themed after the movie. It’s brilliant!

Ever since Ben & Jerry’s announcement, I’ve been thinking of other possible movies and their corresponding ice cream flavors:

1. Thor: The Dark WorldThe Dark Swirl – Dark chocolate ice cream, swirls of caramel, and little cookie Mjolnirs.

2. Captain America: The Winter SoldierSuper Soldier Sundae – Vanilla Bean ice cream, ribbons of Blueberry and Strawberry syrup, and little Chocolate stars.

3. The Hunger Games: Catching FireKatniss Krunch – French Vanilla ice cream with crunchy, Mockingjay-shaped cinnamon cookies.

4. The Amazing Spiderman 2Shockingly Amazing – Electric blueberry frozen yogurt with rhino-shaped cookies and chocolate webs.

5. Teenage Mutant Ninja TurtlesCowabunga Cream –  Mint Ice cream with chocolate chips shaped like katanas, nunchucks, sais, and bo staffs, swirled with green ooze (Peppermint).

6. 50 Shades of Grey50 Shades of Yumm– Gray-colored Vanilla ice cream with chocolate covered graham cracker whips and handcuffs.

Those are just a few ideas I’ve had. They’re really not that easy to think up. What are some delicious combinations you’ve thought up?

Marvel Casting Is The Best!

It might seem like I write an awful lot about comic book films, but I don’t care. I just don’t care.

I recently stumbled upon a Marvel casting list that someone has graciously compiled on IMDb, and I was surprised and incredibly pleased by what I discovered.

Chris Cooper

First off, Chris Cooper has recently been cast as Norman Osborn/Green Goblin in The Amazing Spiderman 2. This is probably one of the best casting choices Marvel has ever made. For anyone who has witnessed the greatness of Chris Cooper, you know what I’m talking about. If you haven’t, watch October Sky, The Bourne Identity, and American Beauty. And from what I’ve heard, his work in Adaptation is pretty remarkable too. He’s one of the finest actor’s in the business, pretty much the American version of Gary Oldman in my book.

Then there’s Chris Pratt cast as Peter Quill/Star-Lord. I’m not sure how I feel about this one. I mean, I’m not too enthusiastic about this film, being as that I know nothing about The Guardians of the Galaxy. I had never even heard of it until Marvel decided to make it into a film. But judging from what I’ve learned, Star-Lord seems to be the heroic leader-type and Chris Pratt really doesn’t come off as the type. I’ve only seen his work on Parks and Recreation and he’s a complete doofus on there. I’ve been wrong before but I guess I’ll just have to wait and see with this one. I am saddened however that Jason Momoa turned down the role of Drax the Destroyer. He would’ve been great in the part. Oh well.

Can Paul be believable as Rhino?

Can Paul be believable as Rhino?

Finally, my favorite and probably the oddest casting choice, Paul Giamatti as Aleksei Sytsevich/The Rhino in The Amazing Spiderman 2. I have no idea what to say about this one except that I can’t wait to see what he does with it. Ya know, when I think of Rhino, Paul Giamatti never appears on the list of actors I would cast. Honestly, I don’t think I would put Rhino in a Spiderman movie. He’s not one of my favorite characters. I would probably choose The Vulture or Mysterio before I put Rhino in the movie, but I like what Marc Webb did with the first film and Giamatti is one of my all-time favorite actors, so I will definitely give this one a chance.

Oh, and I can’t forget Christopher Eccleston as Malekith the Accursed and Zachary Levi as Fandral in Thor: The Dark World. I like the idea of Eccleston (My first Doctor) as a bad guy and after watching Chuck after he “learned Kung Fu,” I think he can pull off Fandral decently well. I’m picturing a live-action Flynn Rider from Tangled but with more sword training. Yeah, that’s gonna happen.

What Marvel casting choices are you excited about? Bothered by? Wanting to happen?
